DrivewayCheck

How Estimates Work

DrivewayCheck is an independent consumer pricing tool. The estimate you receive is built from the details you enter and the current GTA V1 pricing assumptions described below. It is intended for planning and comparison, not as a binding contractor quote.

1. Start with your driveway size

We calculate the driveway area from the length and width you provide. The square footage is the starting point for every estimate.

2. Apply a base price per square foot

The price range depends on the existing surface and the type of project you choose. Each project has a low and high per-square-foot rate:

  • Resurface existing asphalt$4.00$7.00/sq ft
  • Remove and replace existing asphalt$8.00$12.00/sq ft
  • Remove concrete or interlock/pavers and replace with asphalt$10.00$15.00/sq ft
  • Install asphalt over an existing gravel surface$7.00$11.00/sq ft
  • Install a new asphalt driveway (substantial excavation/new base preparation)$9.00$14.00/sq ft

3. Adjust for driveway size

Smaller driveways can cost more per square foot because fixed mobilization and setup costs are spread over fewer square feet. Larger driveways may receive a lower per-square-foot adjustment. The size multiplier is applied to the base rate:

  • Up to 399 sq ft× 1.25
  • Up to 599 sq ft× 1.15
  • Up to 999 sq ft× 1
  • Up to 1499 sq ft× 0.95
  • 1500+ sq ft× 0.9

4. Adjust for condition (when applicable)

If your project keeps or removes an existing driveway, we ask about its current condition. Poorer condition can increase preparation and removal costs:

  • minor cracks× 1
  • significant cracking× 1.03
  • potholes× 1.05
  • sinking× 1.1
  • very poor× 1.15
  • not sure× 1.05

The condition adjustment is skipped when you select “Install new asphalt driveway,” because there is no existing driveway to assess.

5. Add widening separately

If you plan to widen the driveway, we add the widening area separately at $9.00$14.00/sq ft. The added width depends on the option you select:

  • 1 2 wider1–2 ft added width
  • 3 4 wider3–4 ft added width
  • 5 plus wider5–8 ft added width
  • not sure wider1–4 ft added width

The widening area is calculated from your driveway length and the selected added width, then added to the main estimate after size and condition adjustments.

6. Display the price before and after HST

The estimate is shown in two parts: the estimated project price before HST, and the estimated total including Ontario’s 13% HST. The underlying estimate is saved before tax.

7. Location and timeline are not used to change the price

Your city, postal code and project timeline are collected for local context and for lead routing, but they do not currently adjust the price range. The estimate is based on GTA-wide paving cost assumptions.

8. What the estimate does not cover

The online estimate cannot account for every site-specific factor, including grading, drainage, soil and base condition, site access, asphalt specifications, demolition, disposal, municipal requirements, permits, curb work and other conditions a contractor would see in person.

For that reason, we recommend obtaining an onsite quotation from a qualified paving professional before making a final decision.

9. Get local quotes (optional)

After viewing your estimate, you can choose to request quotes from local paving companies. This step is optional. If you proceed, your project details and contact information may be shared with up to three companies serving your area so they can contact you.
